The Imperial Inquisition is a secret organization amongst the Imperium. Their mere existence is but a rumor amongst the citizens of the Imperium. They roam through the Imperium's colonies and planets, burning heretics, xenos and daemons alike. There are three main Ordos of the Inquisition, and there are two categories each Inquisitor goes into.
Information on Grey Knights, Death Watch and Adepta Sororitas are near the bottom of the page, for those who are looking for info on them, and not the inquisition.
Ordos(sections):
Malleus(The Threat Beyond) Mainly hunts and attempts to understand Daemons.
Xenos(The Threat Without) Mainly hunts and attempts to understand alien races.
Hereticus(The Threat Within) Mainly hunts heretics and tries to stop the spread of corruption.
Though one Ordo may "specialize" in eliminating and understanding a certain enemy of the Imperium, any inquisitor is free to hunt and kill any of them. For instance, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos can spend his time hunting down daemons or heretics instead of just aliens.
Though an Inquisitor may call upon any military force of the Imperium to help him/her, each Ordo has a military arm that holds a special unit especially loyal to that order. They are as follows:
Ordo Malleus: Grey Knights Space Marines
Ordo Xenos: Deathwatch Space Marines
Ordo Hereticus: Adepta Sororitas(Sisters of Battle)
Categories:
Even Inquisitors within the same Ordo act differently. There are two main types of Inquisitors, with several categories and sub-categories of those types. They are as follows:
Radical: An Inquisitor that could simply range from studying the objects and technology of the enemy to make new weaponry or to make their current weaponry more effective against the enemy, to full-out using the technology and artifacts of the enemy against them. Radicals are the only type of Inquisitors that can use Xeno technology, daemonic powers and other weapons that heretics, daemons and aliens might employ. They are often watched with a weary eye amongst their fellow inquisitors, as these are the first Inquisitors to be corrupted by the warp. Of course, there are Inquisitors that willingly join the warp, while others that have become agents of chaos without even realizing it.
Puritan: Inquisitors that mainly believe that "Fighting fire with Fire" is unacceptable, and sometimes even view it as heresy. Some of the most devoted Puritans even believe that the act of stealth shows that an Inquisitor is a Radical. They tend to destroy any and all artifacts and possessions of the enemy, be it xeno, heretic or daemon. These are the more well respected members of the Inquisition, but, unless they are the most devoted of Puritans, they are prone to become Radicals in time.
Ranks:
Lord Inquisitor
Inquisitor
Acolyte/Interrogator
These are the ranks that the Inquisition employs. It should be noted that a Acolyte/Interrogator(Whichever his/her's mentor wishes to use) does NOT have any Inquisitional authority by himself. He only has as much authority as his mentor Inquisitor gives him. All Interrogators cannot start out with advanced NPCs and must serve under a player Inquisitor.
As an Acolyte, you will start out with no recommendations. As you progress in the things you do, and manage to perform them properly and effectively and (Hopefully) to your mentor's orders, then you will receive recommendations. After you get two recommendations, you must get your mentor's own recommendation if you have not already received it. After gaining your mentor's recommendation as well as two additional recommendations you will become a full-fledged Inquisitor, where you can now obtain your own retinue and your own Inquisitorial Rosette, which symbolizes your authority and doubles as a master key.
As a normal Inquisitor, if you participate in a Battle thread and succeed in some way that has stopped a potential threat to the Imperium, you have a 50% chance of gaining a Lord recommendation. If you participate in a Battle Event and succeed in your goal then you will gain one lord recommendation and a 50% chance of gaining a second. If you obtain three Lord Recommendations then you have the option of becoming a Lord Inquisitor.
Corruption:
Pontius Glaw once stated that corruption is an inevitable fate of all Inquisitors. Stating that given enough time, even the most dedicated puritans will eventually turn radical, and from there join the force of chaos whether they realize it or not.
There are many things that can brand you a heretic. Most prominent is allowance of a heretic to live and roam free, killing another Inquisitor who's devotion to the Emperor has no evidence of being false, and consorting with the enemy. Actions that have a chance of branding you a heretic include utilizing warp sorcery, preserving dangerous artifacts for yourself and summoning daemonhosts.
Ordo Special Military:
As it has been stated before, each Ordo has a special military branch they can call upon for their most serious work. As such, these units are not given out to Inquisitors for use very lightly. Most are only used by an Inquisitor for a single mission. The information for each is as follows:
Grey Knights:
A mysterious and deadly Space Marine chapter, the Grey Knights do not have painted armor, instead their power armor is gun-metal gray. Each Grey Knight is a psyker in his own right, making their Nemesis force weapons even deadlier. These elite troops can take down even the deadliest of daemons. Their mere presence is painful for any daemonic creature near them and even makes them weaker due to their warding runes' ability to partly sever a daemon from the warp. They cannot be corrupted or driven insane by daemon energies, but their armory is relatively small and more suited for combating daemons.
Grey Knight ranks:
Battle-Brother: The standard and most common Grey Knight. They come in two types: Normal and Purgation.
Normal Grey Knights, comes with a Nemesis force weapon, personal teleportation device and a storm-bolter linked to their armor's left gauntlet. The storm bolter is always loaded with psi-charged rounds, making them very effective against daemons while still remaining effective against normal targets such as humans.
Purgation marines use powerful Psycannons and incinerators with blessed blue flames. Purgation marines serve as the chapter's heavy weapons, filling the same role as a normal Chapter's Devastator marines.
Justicar: The equivalent of a normal chapter's Sergeant, these fearless leaders are often in-charge of battle operations when deployed. They are battle-hardened veterans who are both skilled in combat and tactically intelligent. It is the lowest rank required for a Grey Knight to be able to add Heraldry to his shoulder pauldron.
Brother-Captain: Equivalent of the Space Marine Captain, these elite troops are an equal match for the greater daemons of the warp. They usually command a single squad of Grey Knight Terminators. They hold the second highest rank in their chapter, and as such are deeply mourned whenever lost.
Grand-Master: The equivalent of a normal chapter's Chapter Master, there can be multiple grand-masters at a single time, and their extreme combat prowess allows them to be more then a match for most daemons, including daemon princes. Whenever one of these legendary leaders fall, their names are forever remembered within the Chapter and the Ordo Malleus. They are the highest ranking members of the chapter.
Other types of Grey Knights:
Terminators: Grey Knights who have shown exceptional battle prowess can gain Terminator armor rights. Wearing this sacred armor that is irreplaceable, they can be of any rank, from battle-brother to grand-master. Whenever one of these warriors die, retrieval of their armor is just as, if not more vital than recovering their gene-seed, as the armor is impossible to recreate. On top of their more powerful armor and deadly combat ability, the leader of a terminator squad has the psychic ability called the Holocaust. It is a devastating power that can only be activated by certain psychically powerful members of the Chapter, and gains more power the more Grey Knights there are chanting and contributing their own psi-power towards it. Its power can range from surrounding its user with protective flames, to creating a destructive beam of power that can cut an entire section out of an advancing army.
Dreadnought: Like most dreadnoughts, the "coffin" in the center of this powerful machine lies a critically injured Grey Knight. However, unlike most chapters, Grey knights do not usually wish to fight for as long as possible, and when in a state of dying usually wish to just be laid down to rest in the crypts of Titan. As such, only those who suffer wounds that will not kill them, but prevent them from fighting, or the very rare critically injured marine who wishes to serve as long as possible are put into a dreadnought.
Equipment:
Aegis Power Armor. Psychically charged armor with warding runes and inscriptions built into it. This armor helps amplify its user's psychic power, and increases their protection from both physical and psychic attacks.
Aegis Terminator Armor. Sacred armor, can only be worn by those with Terminator rights. This powerful armor adds on even further protection and psychic enhancement in return for a slight decrease in maneuverability. The technology needed to create this armor has been lost, and as such each suit of armor must be returned to Titan as a large priority.
Storm Bolter. Unlike normal storm bolters, these ones are directly connected to the suit's armor, with a firing stud in the user's hand. Also unlike normal storm bolters, this one uses special Psi-enhanced rounds which are devastating to most targets, including daemons.
Nemesis force weapons. Special force weapons made specifically for the Grey Knights. They, like all force weapons, grow more powerful the stronger their user is as a psyker. They come in multiple forms, from swords to maces to heavy swords and axes, but primarily are used in Halberd form for their long reach.
Liber Daemonicum. This holy book holds the many prayers, rituals, litanies and rites for both funeral and battle. They are usually kept inside of the ceramite breast plate on the marine's armor, or worn around the neck. They are ornately designed, and bear the Inquisitional letter I on the front.
Psycannon. Powerful cannons based off of bolter technology taking the place of the storm bolter, this heavy weapon requires both hands to use. Its powerful rounds are infused with psychic energy, making it deadly against all psyker and daemon units. To further increase its killing ability, each round is tipped with blessed silver and has anti-daemon inscriptions on it. Terminators with this weapon can have a mind-impulse unit built into their armor, allowing for better accuracy, knowledge of when the gun is overheating, and even allowing the shot's psychic energy grow even more powerful by adding in the user's own psychic power.
Incinerator. Much like a standard flamethrower, this weapon uses consecrated promethium and blessed oils mixed together for its fuel, making it deadly against daemonic foes. Unlike most flamers, this weapon's blessed flames shine blue.
Personal Teleporter. Standard equipment for most Grey Knight marines, this device can transport a marine instantaneously almost anywhere on the battlefield. It is embedded into their power armor, and has a recharge time of one minute per jump. Normal marines can make one jump before requiring recharge, which is automatic, where as Terminators can make two jumps before requiring recharge, also automatic.
Deathwatch:
Elite individual units from various chapters. Once they are apart of the chapter, they serve an Inquisitorial commander until released by that commander. When they are released, they are able to return to their chapter after taking a vow of secrecy. These elite space marines wear the pauldron of their original chapter on their right shoulder, and wear an inquisitorial I on their left shoulder instead. All of their power armor is painted black with an exception of the left arm, which is gun-metal grey in order to prevent from angering their suit's machine spirit. They specialize with a very large variation of weaponry, and are trained in how to kill most aliens. The amount of funding into their armory doesn't seem to have an end.
Unfortunately, they are not trained to handle daemons, and are only so effective against them unless armed properly. They are just as corruptible as any other space marine.
Ranks:
Battle-brother: The standard marine in the deathwatch, they, like most of their chapter, tend to carry expensive and deadly weaponry. They serve in a squad, each member tending to be a former member of a different chapter. This can be good and bad. Good, because it combines the strengths of the multiple chapters. Bad, because sometimes tempers flare amongst the squad for chapter rivalries. Particularly between the Blood Angels and the Ultramarines, both of which contribute marines to the infamous chapter.
Sergeant: A squad leader, usually there to ensure all of the marines in the squad are at their best, and to add in their own fighting skill to the team. They are deadly, and have the option of using a side-arm and a melee weapon.
Librarian: A powerful psyker unit, they take the role of second in command if a captain isn't present in the team. They have the option of being equipped with a side-arm and a force weapon.
Captain: Elite soldier, has access to very powerful weaponry. They are the designated second in command of a mission, an inquisitor usually being the total command. If the Inquisitor was to die, the captain would then take charge of the team.
Equipment:
Unlike other chapters, the deathwatch chapter has access and training in multiple types of alien weaponry(With an exception to Tyranid and Ork weaponry) Due to this, they can be seen with Eldar weaponry and equipment, and other dangerous weaponry. They cannot use Tyranid weapons because they are psychically connected with the user, and require their bodies to create ammunition, something humans are incapable of doing, and they cannot utilize Ork technology because...well, Ork technology only works with orks(Explained in the Ork information thread) On top of this all they have access to some of the most advanced and dangerous technology of the Imperium.
Adepta Sororitas:
The Ordo Hereticus often utilizes the militant division of the Adepta Sororitas, also known as the Sisters of Battle. This all-female force consists of elite units that are not as powerful as the Adeptus Astartes. They mix in the traits of the Grey Knights and the Death Watch. They are not as easy to corrupt or drive insane as the Death Watch are, but are not immune to it like the Grey Knights. They have a larger armory than the Grey Knights, but not as large as the Death Watch's armory. To make up for their lack of strength, they come in larger numbers than the space marines.
Ranks:
Canoness Preceptor: Equivalent of Chapter Master, these deadly fighters are rarely ever matched, have access to some of the most advanced weaponry the Ordo Hereticus has to offer.
Canoness Commander: Leads a commandery, equivalent of a Captain. Elite unit that has access to the rare Inferno pistol.
Sister Superior: leads a single squad of Battle Sisters, equivalent of a sergeant.
Seraphim: Elite fast attack units, utilize jump-packs and are equipped with a dual side-arms or a single side-arm and a melee weapon.
Dominion: Standard battle sisters with special close-combat weapons such as flamers and melta-guns.
Retributor: Standard battle sisters with heavy weapons.
Battle Sister: the basic rank of Adepta Sororitas.
Equipment:
The Adepta Sororitas have an armory filled with holy, blessed or normal weaponry. They can have access to most Imperium weaponry, but still have a few restrictions.
Information on Grey Knights, Death Watch and Adepta Sororitas are near the bottom of the page, for those who are looking for info on them, and not the inquisition.
