The Imperium has many citizens and many different kind of Citizens. From Abhumans, to the regular man on the streets, to the "Twists"(Mutants) to the genetically augmented space marines. Each serves their own role as a cog in the large machine that is the Imperium of man.
Depending on who and what they are will depend on what kind of equipment they have access to. They may start out with up to 2 NPCs, be it from friends to associates to bodyguards or battle-brothers. The Imperium worships the God-Emperor of man-kind, who sits immobile on the golden throne of terra. Speaking against or hinting of anything against the Emperor will more often than not lead to death.
Of the Imperium, a player may be:
Mutants: Also referred to as "twists," mutants are looked down upon as the lowest class of any Imperial citizenry due to their lack of purity. None, however, can dispute their usefulness. Some have natural talent at collecting information, others like the massive Ogryns can easily match an Astartes in raw strength. No mutant can be of nobility. NPCs tend to be other twists, allowing them to mix talents. Can have 2 NPCs.
Average Citizen: These can range from the beggar on the street, to the nobleman sitting in his mansion to the bounty hunter roaming the galaxy. These have the largest array of weaponry, as they range from needle rifles to military equipment, but it should be mentioned in their history as to how they acquired their weaponry and how much experience they have. PDF troopers go under this category. NPCs tend to be other citizens and even twists. Can have 2 NPCs
Imperial Guard: The primary military of the Imperium, Imperial guardsmen come in many regiments and several regiment types exist. Weaponry can also range, but the most common among these being the standard las-rifle. Characters of this type would either be in the thick of battle, or in a tavern with his friends. NPCs will always be other guardsmen. Can have 4 NPCs due to being cannon fodder.
Assassin: The dangerous agents of the officio assassinorum, each one is incredibly deadly, and each one comes from a different temple. They cannot start out with any NPCs.
Assassin Temples:
Vindicare - Snipers, they use their deadly exitus rifle and pistol to kill most foes with a single shot. They have a precise, uncanny aim, and very rarely ever miss. They also have an infiltration unit, and have been known to wait a good amount of time for the perfect shot.
Callidus - Meaning "Clever" in latin, the Callidus assassins are mainly female, and prefer close-combat. They can use their polymorphine drug to take the shape of just about any other race and successfully infiltrate them. They have access to Phase-blade weaponry among other things.
Eversor - Although a character such as this one will be hard to roleplay because he must be in stasis whenever not in battle, the eversor is truly one of the scariest things one will find on the battlefield. They use combat drugs in order to become the perfect killing machine on the battlefield. Not subtle in any way, they excel in both ranged and close combat, and very few foes can stand up to one of these deadly assassins. However, they rely on their combat drugs, and are always in a state of blood-lust, and will die if they go too long without their combat drugs.
Culexus - One of the most mysterious of the assassins, the culexus are comprised only of special individuals who have the "Pariah" gene. Because of this, they make for deadly anti-warp weapons. Their very presence is uncomfortable for most others, and incredibly painful for psykers and daemons.
Death Cults - Although not an actual temple, the death cult assassins are swift, deadly units who excel in close-combat. Their agility is almost unmatched, and their wide-array of different blades will allow them to easily turn a room full of guardsmen into diced chunks of meat. They have the odd ritual of drinking the blood of their fallen foes.
Space Marines: The legendary Adeptus Astartes, most men have never seen these legendary beings, a majority only believing them to be myth, and the handful who have often would much rather fight a daemon. Their basic projectile weapon is the bolter, a .75 caliber automatic rifle that fires rocket-propelled explosive rounds. They are the finest soldiers of the Imperium, in full combat gear they are an army in themselves. NPCs will always be other battle-brothers of the same class. Can have 2 NPCs
Ranks:
Battle-brother - Standard marine, very limited in weaponry, their class will determine their equipment mostly.
Sergeant - A squad leader, is much less limited in weaponry, having access to their ship's armory. They have access to any of the basic weapons of the varying classes.
Veteran Sergeant - Squad leader and often trains initiates, they have much more access than other sergeants, most notably being able to use power weapons and sometimes even Terminator armor rights.
Chaplain - Guides the spirits of his brothers, the Chaplain is a devastating warrior clad in black armor. Instead of the standard helmet, a Chaplain wears a death mask, which has an intimidating appearance with its skull-face. They have access to the devastating Crozius power weapon, which few foes can withstand. Chaplains do not go under any class, so their NPCs may be of any of the classes.
Captain - A marine leader, Captains can have access to terminator armor and most power weapons, as well as plasma pistols and other dangerous equipment. They are a rare foe, but one that few wish to engage with.
Classes:
Scout: The scouts of a company, their armor is lightweight and maneuverable, but cannot stand as much damage as the armor of the average battle-brother can. Comes with frag grenades, an infiltration unit and the choice of a bolter rifle or a sniper rifle. Flamers and plasma guns are also possible.
Standard - The basic rifleman, comes with frag grenades, a bolter rifle and standard power armor. Plasma guns and flamers are also possible.
Assault - Fast-attack unit, comes with standard power armor, a jump-pack, Frag grenades or Melta-bombs and a choice between a bolter rifle, or two one-handed weapons. (Pistols and swords) Flamers are possible, but not plasma guns.
Devastator: Heavy weapons unit, slow but deadly at range. Comes with standard power armor, and a choice between a heavy bolter, an autocannon, rocket launcher(and bolt-pistol), or a plasma cannon.
Terminator: Must be at least the rank of Veteran Sergeant. Extremely heavily armored, slow, but very deadly unit. Comes with Terminator armor, krak grenades, personal teleporter units, and a choice between a Storm-bolter(Improved standard equipment) with a power-fist and shoulder-mounted cyclone launchers, Assault cannon(Improved devastator equipment) with a power-fist, Heavy flamer(Improved devastator equipment) and a power-fist, A pair of lightning claws(Improved Assault equipment) or a thunder hammer and storm shield(Improved assault equipment)
